This Week in Books

This Week in Books is a weekly round-up in which I look back on a book I've finished, highlight one I am currently reading, and one I will read in the near future. What are you reading these days? Stay safe!

THEN: I finished The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware. It was, as I often find to be the case with her books, engaging, but lacking an ending that justified the perpetually building tense atmosphere. It was a little flat and predictable, but entertaining enough. I think I am being extra fussy right now, because I read Circe by Madeline Miller before this one, and it was so good anything that followed would likely suffer in comparison, even though they are very different.

NOW: I just started Big Summer by Jennifer Weiner. I haven't read anything by the author before and am not a big reader of chick-lit (often more generously called "women's fiction"...), but I am in the mood for something light and summery, and the title of the book and the cover seem to promise that. I am still at the very beginning, though, so I can't say much about my impressions yet.

NEXT: I might read My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell next. I have heard so much about it, it makes me a little apprehensive, but curious, too. Have you read it? It seems like a rather dark book to read in a time like this...
