Mini Review: The Prisoner by B.A. Paris

2.5***

I have read quite a few of B.A. Paris' books, in the hopes of one of them replicating the suspenseful page-turning quality of "Behind Closed Doors", alas, I have not found it in this one either. "The Prisoner" is entertaining and fast paced, but also a bit predictable (for this dedicated thriller reader, at least) and I felt that the characters all veered into the cliched territory, which prevented me from really connected to or caring about them. The plot became repetitive after the halfway point, and the ending felt too abrupt. That being said, I wanted something easy and fast-paced for the weekend, and this served that purpose well enough. "Behind Closed Doors" was one of the first thrillers I read, so if I re-read it now, maybe I would not be as blown away as I was at the time. It introduced me to a genre I have come to love (whatever that says about me...) and for that, I have to be thankful to B.A. Paris, even if her newer novels haven't quite done it for me.
