Blog Tour: Something Wicked by Kerry Wilkinson

Today it's my pleasure to kick of the blog tour for Kerry Wilkinson's latest novel, Something Wicked. I've enjoyed some of the author's books in the past and was excited to get a chance to take part in this tour to read his new work.
Andrew Hunter is plagued by guilt. His only escape is work, where it fuels his need to help others find those they’ve lost. Elaine Carr’s son, Nicholas, disappeared in the dense woods near his home. He hasn’t been seen since, and she’s falling apart. Andrew suspects Nicholas is alive, but in grave danger. He wants to know how no one in the small town of Prestwich has any answers. Why the teenager’s girlfriend is so cagey, and to get a proper look at the tattoo on her wrist. And as he follows the trail of an unsettling clue found in the boy’s bedroom, he begins to wonder if the case is connected to one buried in the past. Can Andrew find Nicholas alive, or is he already too late to save him? A gripping thriller full of shocking twists that will have you hooked! If you like L.J. Ross, Mark Edwards or Rachel Caine, you’ll love Something Wicked!
My Review:
4****
Something Wicked introduces us to the private investigator Andrew Hunter in what promises to be a gripping new series! I am really a character-driven reader, and I found Andrew compelling from the start. He has some personal daemons with which to contend, making him an intriguing and flawed protagonist, if not wholly likable. He and his associate Jenny are hired to help find Nicholas Carr, who disappeared nine months prior. What follows is a gripping race against the clock to find Nicholas before it is too late.
I enjoyed this mystery quite a bit. It wasn't the most original story, but fast paced and engaging from beginning to end all the same. The writing and characterization were strong and there were a number of twists I definitely did not see coming.
I look forward to reading the next book in this series!
