I enjoyed this article on the LitHub, exploring some of the creepiest houses in mystery fiction. Which houses would you add to the list? I might include Manderley from Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier.
Two lost manuscripts by Charlotte Brontë will be published by the Brontë Society. Jane Eyre is one of my absolute favorite books, and it is exciting to hear that her work is still being actively pursued and cherished by so many.
Bookwitty has rounded up a list of Italian writers, in case you, like me, are interested in reading more novels in translation. Of the five, I have only read Elena Ferrante (highly recommended!), so I'm looking forward to some of these new authors.
The Guardian published a very interesting and heartening piece about the fact that the new "big books" are focused on kindness and compassion instead of violence and treachery. I still love crime fiction, I won't lie, but I think this trend is a sign of the times, where there is a significant divide among people and we are looking to find something uplifting in the the books we read. What do you think?
