Have you read any of Gillian Flynn's books? I read them all, even though, in hindsight, I regretted it a little. Gone Girl was definitely a page turner, but Sharp Objects and Dark Places were gratuitously creepy and awful in my opinion. That being said, I am a little curious about her newest book. It's been quite a while, and it's always tough to follow sensations like her previous books (each one turned into a film) with something new. Will you be reading it? In Chicago Magazine she discusses her new book and writing style.
Amid a flurry of accusations against authors, come new ones against celebrated writer Sherman Alexie. A while ago, I wrote about whether or not one can and should separate what one knows about authors from their work. For me, this is not really possible, but I wonder how other feel about it. Does the fact that Alexie is accused of sexual misconduct draw a shows over one of his books you might have loved?
The New York Times has published an interesting list of 15 books by women which shaped writing in the 21st century. What do you think? Which ones would you add?
The Guardian has published an interesting examination of Du Maurier's classic, Rebecca, eighty years after it first entered the literary scene. Have you read it? I thought it was a real page turner, and though the mystery was a little predictable, the build-up of tension is fantastic!
