Seven 2018 Movies Based on Books

I didn't realize quite how many films these days are based on books! 2018 is bringing a lot of interesting adaptations to the big screen, and I have read a few of the books they are based on and plan on reading some more before I see the movie. Here are a some of the ones I am most excited both to read and see. What do you think? Which ones would you add?

The cast looks fantastic, with Cate Blanchett as Bernadette, which in itself makes me want to see this film. Added to that, I really enjoyed the book as well.

Possibly my most anticipated and sort of most dreaded adaptation. I really loved the book, and when you enjoy a book this much, you so badly want to see the film done well. The cast looks good, so I am keeping my fingers crossed it will be worthwhile.

This book was worth the hype. Thought-provoking and intelligent, I would definitely recommend it. The trailer for the film has not yet been released, but I am really curious to see how they made it and the cast looks perfect for the roles.

Though the book is essentially exactly what the title not so subtly suggests, it's still a fun read that actually told be more than I had anticipated about the super-wealthy people and the culture of Singapore. It was a bit too long for a book that was essentially clever chick-lit, but still enjoyable. I look forward to seeing how it translates to the screen.

This is a book I haven't yet read, but it is based on Hamlet, which I know quite well. I look forward to reading the retelling from Ophelia's point of view, though I think I have avoided the book thus far, because of course I know the ending isn't very happy. The cast looks really good again with Naomi Watts and Daisy Ridley, so I am excited to see the film.

I read the first book in the Millenium Trilogy, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo years ago, and saw the movie with Rooney Mara. Neither was really my cup of tea then, but I have since discovered an interest in crime fiction, so I might return to the series. I am especially interested in the film, however, because Claire Foy (The Queen!) takes on the starring role of Lisbeth Salander.

First things first, this book is in no way related to Fifty Shades of Grey! It has been languishing on my shelf for some time, not because I don't want to read it, but because I'm a little wary. I read Salt to the Sea by the same author, Ruta Sepetys last year and it was just crushing, so good, but so, so sad (You can find my review here). I suspect this book, focusing on a Lithuanian girl in 1941, is not going to be an easy read either, but I definitely plan to have read the book before I see the film. It has been renamed Ashes in the Snow.
