This Week in Books

This Week in Books is a fun meme hosted by Lipsyy Lost and Found. In this post I look back on a book I've finished, highlight one I am currently reading, and one I will read in the near future. What are you reading these days?

THEN: I finished Anatomy of a Scandal by Sarah Vaughan, which was quite a page turner. It received a lot of attention, and for the most part, I think it was warranted. It also felt like a rather timely story, though I don't want to say why yet so I won't spoil it for anyone:-)

NOW: I am about midway through The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine, and though it's not a terribly original story, it is engaging. That being said, I do not like any of the characters, and while even an unlikable character can be intriguing, there is not enough mystery about them, nor a strong enough back story, at least so far. The pace is a little slow, and the writing not very strong. I'll be curious what I think when I get to the end, but so far, I don't think it will be more than a three star read. Have you read it? What did you think?

NEXT: Finally, I am trying to break out of my crime fiction lover's mold and read another genre I used to love, YA fantasy. Everless by Sarah Holland sounds intriguing and has been getting quite good reviews, so I am looking forward to seeing how it lives up. I recently read Holly Black's The Cruel Prince and really enjoyed it, so I hope this will be a similarly satisfying foray into this genre.
