This Week in Books

This Week in Books is a fun meme hosted by Lipsyy Lost and Found. In this post I look back on a book I've finished, highlight one I am currently reading, and one I will read in the near future. What are you reading these days?

THEN: I finished The Lying Game by Ruth Ware. Even though most readers seem to have really enjoyed it, it took me a long time to get into it, and by the end, I was not entirely satisfied. I ended up giving ti a 3.5 star rating, and would recommend Ware's other books over this one. You can find my review here.

NOW: I am about half-way through Thick as Thieves by Megan Whalen Turner. It is part of The Queen's Thief series, which is one of my favorites. My expectations were very high for this one, but it's a little disappointing. None of my favorite characters appear, and it feels as though this is only vaguely related to the rest of the series. I would highly recommend the first three books, if you enjoy clever fantasy , but the fourth one was not good and this, the fifth, is not very exciting yet either, unfortunately. I hope it will get better, though. Has anyone else read it? What did you think?

LATER: One of my favorite authors of the past year has been Fredrik Backman with his wonderful novels Britt-Marie Was Here and My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry. Backman has a quiet style, but the stories he weaves and the characters he creates are very memorable and very human. Beartown is his newest book and I just got a copy from the library. Looking forward to reading it!
